Amman: The Lower House (LH) Agriculture and Water Committee, led by MP Dr. Ahmed Shdeifat, convened on Wednesday to deliberate the potential of linking electricity to agricultural zones in the Al-Hammad and Al-Sarhan basins. This initiative is aimed at bolstering agricultural ventures and enhancing investment opportunities in the region.
According to Jordan News Agency, Shdeifat emphasized that connecting electricity would aid in reducing operational expenses, fostering agricultural growth, and achieving sustainable development. This move aligns with efforts to strengthen food security and support the agricultural sector. During the session, he urged for the provision of essential infrastructure for farmers and investors to ensure the continuity and positive economic impact of their projects.
Shdeifat, joined by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Agriculture, Muhammad Hyari, and other senior officials, advocated for swift action in expanding power network coverage. He highlighted that such expansion would positively influence the sustainability of agricultural projects and boost employment for local workers.
In parallel, Ziad Sa'aydeh, Chairman of the Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC), confirmed that the Commission is actively preparing the necessary studies and coordinating with relevant stakeholders. He noted that the EMRC's established procedures facilitate the extension of grid services to licensed water wells.
Several farmers shared the challenges faced by investors in the two basins and discussed strategies to address these issues. This discourse is part of the broader government strategy to develop the Badia regions and leverage agricultural land investments.
