Amman: Minister of Labor, Dr. Khaled Bakkar, has emphasized the ministry’s commitment to regulating the affairs of expatriate workers in Jordan to ensure adherence to Jordanian law. He highlighted that the issue of accumulated fines on the Syrian labor force is under current examination. This statement was made during a dialogue seminar at Al-Naima Cultural Forum on Wednesday evening.
According to Jordan News Agency, Dr. Bakkar noted that the ministry’s responsibility is to regulate and monitor the labor market as per its laws and regulations. This initiative aims to create a “safe and attractive” workplace in the private sector and to maintain a balance in the rights of workers and employers. The ministry is working in collaboration with other public institutions to equip Jordan’s youth with the necessary skills to enter the labor market effectively.
Dr. Bakkar also highlighted the significance of small, medium, and micro enterprises (SMMEs) in Jordan. He pointed out that the Development and Employment Fun
d provides financial support for these ventures, while the Skills Development Commission offers capital and operational aid to 31 production units and branches, supporting development across the Kingdom’s governorates.
On the subject of raising the minimum wage, Dr. Bakkar mentioned that this decision lies with the tripartite committee, which includes representatives from workers, employers, and the government. The committee will be responsible for announcing any increase in the minimum wage.
