Labor Minister Highlights SMEs as Key to Youth Employment

Amman: Minister of Labor Khaled Bakkar emphasized the pivotal role of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) in generating employment opportunities for youth across the Kingdom’s governorates and districts. This statement was made during the inauguration of an electric vehicle (EV) charging station and a graduation ceremony for 16 young women who completed a sewing and tailoring course organized by the al-Hashimiyah Ladies Association for Social Development.

According to Jordan News Agency, Bakkar highlighted the significant contributions of cooperative societies in empowering local communities through training and skills development programs. These initiatives aim to enhance employability and equip youth with market-driven skills, thus reducing unemployment, particularly among women.

The minister noted the success of the ministry’s implementation of the Royal Initiative, which established 34 production branches nationwide, providing approximately 10,000 jobs. Most of these positions are held by women, serving as a model for localized development and job creation in rural areas.

Bakkar further emphasized the importance of self-reliance for youth in acquiring skills that meet market demands. He acknowledged the Vocational Training Corporation’s role in offering specialized training and promoting Jordanian talent globally through partnerships with Germany and Italy. These collaborations aim to secure job opportunities for Jordanian youth abroad.

In addition, Bakkar encouraged young people to utilize financing programs available through the Development and Employment Fund and the Ministry’s Vocational and Technical Training Fund to support SMEs, thereby fostering economic growth and employment in the Kingdom.
