New york: His Majesty King Abdullah II, in separate meetings with the leaders of Cyprus, Finland, and Luxembourg, called for maximum efforts to stop Israeli ground operations in Gaza. He emphasized this stance during discussions with Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides, Finland President Alexander Stubb, and Luxembourg Prime Minister Luc Frieden at the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly, attended by His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II.
According to Jordan News Agency, the King reiterated the urgent need for a ceasefire in Gaza and for relief aid to reach all areas of the Strip without hindrance to address the dire humanitarian situation. He expressed concern over the potential repercussions of increased settlement activities in the West Bank and the risks of altering the historical and legal status quo in Jerusalem.
Furthermore, His Majesty stressed the importance of supporting Palestinians in achieving their rights and establishing an independent state based on the two-state solution. He acknowledged Luxembourg’s intention to recognize the Palestinian state as a commendable step.
Cyprus President Christodoulides reiterated his country’s commitment to enhancing cooperation with Jordan within the European Union framework. Finland’s President Stubb praised Jordan’s significant regional role and expressed full support for the King’s peace efforts. Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Frieden highlighted Jordan’s exemplary relief efforts in Gaza and its services to refugees, acknowledging Jordan’s leadership in coordinating humanitarian endeavors globally.
The discussions also explored the friendly relations between Jordan and these countries and examined ways to enhance cooperation across various fields. Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi and Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh were present at the meetings.
