Nicosia: His Majesty King Abdullah II, Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades, and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis held a Trilateral Summit on Wednesday in Nicosia.
According to Jordan News Agency, the summit, convening for the fourth time, focused on ways to strengthen cooperation between the three countries across various fields, as well as the latest developments in the region.
During the summit, His Majesty expressed Jordan’s keenness to strengthen joint action with Cyprus and Greece. The discussions emphasized the importance of capitalizing on regional cooperation opportunities, especially in the fields of energy, trade, and tourism. Economic cooperation was a key focus, alongside addressing climate change effects, such as natural disasters, drought, desertification, and forest fires.
The leaders witnessed the signing of three memorandums of understanding on investment, water resource management, and educational cooperation. The signing of these MoUs was highlighted as crucial for enhancing th
e cooperation level between the three nations and building on the outcomes of previous summits. His Majesty expressed Jordan’s anticipation of hosting the next trilateral summit, underlining the importance of the Jordanian-Cypriot-Greek partnership.
The trilateral cooperation, initiated in 2018, aims to expand economic collaboration and strengthen the ties among Jordan, Cyprus, and Greece. Regional developments were also on the agenda, with leaders stressing the importance of efforts to reach a ceasefire in Gaza, protect civilians, and increase humanitarian efforts in the area. They voiced concern over extremist settler violence against Palestinians, advocating for a political solution based on a two-state resolution.
His Majesty reiterated the need to support Lebanon’s security and stability, affirming Jordan’s commitment to Lebanon’s sovereignty and citizen safety. The Syrian refugee crisis was discussed, highlighting the international community’s responsibility towards refugees and their host countries.
