King Abdullah II’s Speech Emphasizes Unity as ‘One Jordanian Family’

Amman:His Majesty King Abdullah II underscored the concept of "one Jordanian family" during the Speech from the Throne, highlighting profound national and social messages. This emphasis reflects the importance of safeguarding national identity while strengthening the values of loyalty, belonging, and tolerance amidst challenges to society's security and stability, according to experts in sociology and family counseling.

According to Jordan News Agency, experts noted that the king's reference to the Jordanian family transcends the traditional notion of a family, establishing an inclusive national identity founded on the unity of Jordanians regardless of their diverse backgrounds. This message is seen as a call for genuine belonging to the homeland, manifested through conduct and participation in safeguarding the country's achievements. The unity of the Jordanian family is deemed a shared responsibility extending from individual households to state institutions.

Professor of Political Sociology Bader Madi highlighted the timing and content of the king's speech, particularly following a shocking crime in Karak, emphasizing that such acts contradict the deeply rooted values of Jordanian society. Madi stated that King Abdullah's address underscored that those committing terrorist acts do not represent the Jordanian family, which is united by a shared sense of belonging and loyalty to Jordan.

Professor Suhaila Mahmoud Banat from Amman Arab University noted the king's portrayal of Jordanian society as one family reinforces the central role of family in shaping societal values. Jordanian families are seen as embodying values of solidarity, respect, and mutual support, which contribute to societal cohesion and loyalty to national institutions.

Director of Al-Thoria Studies Center Mohammad Al-Jraibei emphasized the clarity and directness of the King's speech in reinforcing an inclusive national identity. He noted that Jordanian national identity serves as a safeguard for societal cohesion, with public awareness and institutional contributions strengthening the values of belonging and shared identity.

The speech's messages are seen as vital in confronting challenges, promoting tolerance, and fostering a cohesive national identity that transcends individual differences for the stability and future of Jordan.
