According to Jordan News Agency, King Abdullah emphasized the crucial role of the European Union in implementing the agreement, which involves supporting the Palestinian National Authority in serving the interests of Palestinians. He also underscored the need for a robust humanitarian response in Gaza to alleviate the war’s devastating impact.
The King referenced the recent two-state solution conference in New York, organized by Saudi Arabia and France, urging nations to build on its outcomes and increase recognition of the State of Palestine. He highlighted the necessity for comprehensive calm in the West Bank and Jerusalem, cautioning against unilateral measures and advocating for support of Palestinian resilience.
King Abdullah noted that the ongoing challenges in the Middle East and Southern Europe require sustained cooperation, with the MED9 Summit demonstrating a commitment to enhancing dialogue and coordination to tackle shared issues. The summit included leaders from Southern European countries such as Slovenia, Cyprus, Spain, France, Greece, Italy, Malta, Portugal, and Croatia, all of which border the Mediterranean Sea.
Discussions at the summit covered the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and its provisions, focusing on the steps needed for implementing all phases and the potential roles of MED9 member states in ensuring the agreement’s success, thus paving the way for lasting peace.
The summit also stressed maintaining comprehensive calm in the West Bank and preventing any actions that could jeopardize security and stability or undermine the two-state solution. King Abdullah expressed gratitude for the invitation to the summit for a second consecutive year, highlighting the strong ties between Jordan, Slovenia, and Southern European nations.
During a working lunch with participating delegation leaders, His Majesty underscored the importance of exploring economic growth opportunities between the Middle East and Southern Europe.
