King Abdullah II Reaffirms Jordan’s Commitment to Syrian Reconstruction During Meeting with President Al Sharaa

Amman: His Majesty King Abdullah II met with Syria President Ahmed Al Sharaa at Basman Palace, underscoring Jordan’s commitment to supporting Syria’s rebuilding efforts. The meeting emphasized the importance of including all elements of Syrian society to ensure national unity, security, and stability.

According to Jordan News Agency, the discussions, which included His Royal Highness Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, highlighted the longstanding relationship between Jordan and Syria. The leaders expressed a mutual desire to enhance cooperation in trade, energy, and water, as well as to strengthen Arab unity through coordinated efforts on common issues.

King Abdullah praised the outcomes of the Syrian National Dialogue Conference, recognizing it as a crucial step toward Syria’s reconstruction and meeting the aspirations of its people. He stressed the need for Jordan and Syria to work closely on various challenges, particularly those related to border security and the prevention of arms and drug smuggling. The King also emphasized the significance of Syria resuming its active role in the regional landscape.

The meeting, which included the presence of His Royal Highness Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, underscored the importance of creating conducive conditions for the voluntary and safe return of Syrian refugees. King Abdullah reiterated Jordan’s support for Syrian sovereignty and condemned Israel’s actions on Syrian territory.

President Al Sharaa expressed his gratitude for Jordan and King Abdullah’s supportive stance in the reconstruction efforts. The meeting was attended by several senior officials including Prime Minister Jafar Hassan, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, and Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad Al Shibani.

The visit concluded with King Abdullah and the Crown Prince accompanying President Al Sharaa to Marka Airport, marking the end of his visit to Jordan.
