Islamabad: His Majesty King Abdullah II met with Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in Islamabad, emphasizing the importance of expanding cooperation between the two countries to serve shared interests.
According to Jordan News Agency, the meeting began with a bilateral session followed by an expanded one, where both leaders affirmed their commitment to strengthening the 78-year-old Jordanian-Pakistani relations. They discussed enhancing joint actions in various fields, including trade, economy, investment, tourism, education, technology, and defense.
His Majesty stressed the need for continued coordination and cooperation, both bilaterally and internationally, alongside active and friendly nations, to work towards peace and stability in the Middle East. He expressed condolences for the victims of recent terrorist attacks in Pakistan and reiterated Jordan’s solidarity in combating terrorism.
The situation in Gaza was also a focal point, with the King urging all parties to adhere to the ceasefire agreement fully and ensure sufficient humanitarian aid flows. His Royal Highness Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, among others, attended the meeting, highlighting Pakistan’s role in the UN Security Council and the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.
The King emphasized halting unilateral measures against Palestinians in the West Bank, particularly settlement expansions and land annexation, and warned against escalating attacks on holy sites in Jerusalem. Both nations reaffirmed their rejection of plans to displace Palestinians and supported the establishment of an independent Palestinian state based on a two-state solution.
Prime Minister Sharif expressed Pakistan’s commitment to expanding cooperation with Jordan, noting the significance of His Majesty’s visit. The leaders witnessed the exchange of cooperation agreements between media institutions and a memorandum of understanding for educational and cultural collaboration.
Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Maj. Gen. Yousef Huneiti, and other dignitaries attended the meeting, further solidifying the commitment to enhanced bilateral relations.
