Amman: His Majesty King Abdullah II received Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Amman on Monday to discuss recent developments in the Palestinian territories. The King affirmed Jordan's condemnation of illegal measures aimed at enhancing settlements and imposing Israeli sovereignty over the West Bank.
According to Jordan News Agency, during the meeting at Al Husseiniya Palace, His Majesty underscored Jordan's categorical rejection of decisions that infringe upon the rights of the Palestinian people and their right to establish an independent state based on the two-state solution. He emphasized the importance of maintaining Jordanian-Palestinian coordination and working with regional and international partners to exert pressure to halt Israeli escalations, which threaten to escalate tensions in the region.
The King reaffirmed Jordan's commitment to its historic role under the Hashemite Custodianship in protecting Muslim and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem. On the topic of Gaza, he highlighted the necessity of adhering to the ceasefire agreement and advancing to its second phase, along with increasing the flow of relief aid to address the humanitarian crisis without hindrance.
His Majesty also reiterated the significance of supporting the Palestinian National Authority's reform efforts to benefit the Palestinian people. President Abbas, in turn, expressed gratitude for Jordan's ongoing support and acknowledged the crucial role of the Hashemite Custodianship in safeguarding Jerusalem's holy sites.
The meeting was attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, Director of the Office of His Majesty Alaa Batayneh, Palestinian Ambassador to Jordan Attallah Khairy, and the accompanying Palestinian delegation.
