Key Energy Development: Beachfront Gasification Unit Set for This Year.

Amman: Significant developments are underway in the energy sector, as the latest report on the executive program for Economic Modernization Vision (2023-2025) outlined plans to begin construction of a beachfront gasification unit in the final quarter of this year. This initiative is part of the Sheikh Sabah Port Natural Gas Development Project.

According to Jordan News Agency, the Government Performance Monitoring Unit’s report also highlighted ongoing activities related to memoranda of understanding with developers focused on green hydrogen projects. Preparations are underway to gather information about land and sites within the Aqaba Special Economic Zone, as well as transportation routes.

A land use agreement for the green hydrogen and ammonia production project has been finalized, with negotiations for an investment agreement currently in progress. Jordan Green Ammonia Company has established an agreement with the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) for a 10,000 dunam plot designated for renew
able energy, in addition to a deal with the Aqaba Development Corporation for a 320-dunam plot for the factory site.

Moreover, the report outlined efforts to create a regulatory framework for connecting renewable energy sources to the electrical grid, including exemptions for these systems from certain energy consumption regulations, with steps for formal approval ongoing.

The report also mentions a tender issued for leasing a floating LNG vessel in the Gulf of Aqaba for 10 years, which will include an option for ownership at the lease’s end. Work is progressing on the Sarhan field, with plans to tender for drilling two wells to a depth of 500 meters.
