JSMO, GSO talk standardization cooperation

Director General of Jordan Standards and Metrology Organization (JSMO) , Abeer Alzhair, stressed the importance of the existing bilateral cooperation with Gulf Standardization Organization (GSO).

 

Alzhair also stressed importance of exchanging technical expertise, signing memoranda of understanding (MoU) in standardization, conformity and accreditation certificates fields and taking part in technical committees tasked to develop standards.

 

During her meeting with GSO Chairman, Saud bin Nasser Khusaibi, Alzhair said JSMO is working with its Arab counterparts and GSO to unify positions in international forums, expressing interest in participating in GSO-organized workshops, forums and regional training programs to benefit from Jordanian expertise and competencies.

 

Harmonization of standards and technical regulations contributes “significantly” to addressing trade obstacles between Jordan and Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, she noted.

 

Alzhair also stressed the need to create a joint JSMO-GSO liasion center and participate in both sides’ technical committees.

 

For his part, Khusaibi lauded JSMO’s efforts in the fields of standardization, metrology, as well as quality and accreditation infrastructure, stressing GSO’s interest in benefiting from Jordanian organization’s “rich” scientific competencies.

 

He also affirmed GSO’s readiness to overcome all trade obstacles between Jordan and the GCC countries.

 

GSO took Jordanian specifications as references, he said, noting that 45 Gulf standards have been integrated and approved unchanged, as per Jordanian specifications in force.

 

Touring JSMO’s various labs, Khusaibi was briefed from their technicians in charge, expressing admiration for the organization’s “advanced” scientific and technical level.
