Jordan’s trade deficit up by 24.6% during first half of 2021-DoS report

The Kingdom’s trade balance deficit went up during the first half of 2021, by 24.6%, to stand at JD3.79 billion, compared to the same period in 2020, which amounted to JD3.047 billion, according to the Department of Statistics’ (DoS) figures.

In the department’s monthly report issued on Jordan’s foreign trade Wednesday, the value of total exports increased in the first half of 2021 by 19.6% to stand at JD3,018 billion, compared to the same period of 2020, which hit JD2.523 billion.

The value of national exports soared in the first six months 2021 by 23.1% at JD2.723 billion, compared to the same period last year, which amounted to JD2,211 billion, the report showed.

According to the report, value of re-exports stood at JD295.2 million in the first half of 2021, marking a drop of 5.4%, compared to 2020, which amounted to JD311.9 million.

Jordan’s imports rose in the first half of 2021 by 22.3%, reaching a value of JD6.815 billion, compared to JD5,571 billion in the same period last year, the DoS noted.
