Jordan’s New Fundraising Licensing Bylaw to Enhance Transparency and Accountability

Amman: Jordan’s Ministry of Social Development announced that the recently approved Fundraising Licensing Bylaw aims to regulate fundraising procedures, enhancing transparency and accountability. The bylaw, approved by the Council of Ministers, is designed to streamline the process of delivering donations to deserving groups, enabling charitable organizations to support public charitable activities and safeguarding the community from scams.

According to Jordan News Agency, the ministry emphasized that the new system is focused on comprehensively regulating the fundraising process, particularly at the licensing stage, and monitoring the expenditure of funds and donations to ensure they are used for their declared purposes. The bylaw prohibits the launch of any fundraising campaign unless an official license is obtained from the Ministry of Social Development.

The goal of this initiative, as noted by the ministry, is to ensure effective transparency, accountability, and oversight in fundraising operations. To facilitate and expedite these procedures, fundraising license applications will be submitted online through a unified portal.

The ministry has reiterated its call for citizens to verify the presence of official approvals from the Ministry of Social Development before making donations and to avoid transferring funds to the personal accounts of campaign organizers or others. It also urged the public to report any illegal fundraising campaigns, stressing a zero-tolerance policy for campaigns lacking the necessary licenses, with legal action to be taken in accordance with the bylaw and relevant legislation.
