Jordan’s exports grew by JD1.2bln in 2022 first half-Gov’t data

National exports increased by JD1.2 billion in the first half of 2022, totaling JD3.9 billion, compared to the same period last year, which amounted to JD2.7 billion, official data showed.

The main commodities that were exported during the January-June period were garment, fertilizers, row potash and phosphates, and chemical products.

In a statement to “Petra” on Saturday, head of Jordan Exporters Association (JEA), Ahmed Khudari, said surge in national exports in the 2022 first half is mainly due to rise on phosphate prices globally, in addition to some other industries, stressing Jordanian industry’s capability to face challenges and difficulties and its high quality and competitiveness at export markets.

Despite the increase made by industrial exports since the beginning of 2022, registering “unprecedented, record” numbers for many years, he said this growth is still concentrated in certain industrial sectors, which requires focusing on manufacturing industries that gives a high added value to the national economy.

Khudari also stressed the need to diversify the base of industrial goods exported to foreign markets by investing the existing exporting opportunities in the industrial sector, which are still untapped, estimated at more than JD4 billion in various industrial sectors, which would reduce Jordan’s trade balance deficit, expand investments and generate more of job opportunities.

In addition, he stressed the importance of optimizing trade agreements signed with various economic blocs, especially the free trade agreement (FTA) with the United States, Canada and European Union, referring to “great” opportunities for Jordanian industrial products in these two markets that have not been harnessed yet.

In this regard, he stressed the importance of promoting Jordanian industry abroad and developing a clear strategy, referring to JEA’s efforts to dispatch industrialists and exporters to major Arab and international exhibitions at specialized pavilions.
