Jordan’s customs agents seize illegal cigarette production line

General Director of Jordan Customs, Jalal Qudah, said Thursday an illegal cigarette production line was seized recently, in cooperation with security departments.

Speaking at a press conference, he said the Anti-Smuggling Directorate agents seized a cigarette production line that breached regulations to import tobacco manufacturing machines.

The confiscation operation was made upon tipoffs verified and tracked over a long period, which finally led to seizing the cigarette production line loaded on a truck, Qudah told the press.

After searching the truck’s cargo, a complete tobacco production line was found, in addition to the filling and packaging machines, he said, adding that this smuggled plant is “illegal,” violates customs and tax laws and produces damaging economic effects on the national economy and the state Treasury.

This offense, he noted, poses a threat to economic and social security and leads to losing diverse state financial resources due its “severe” damage to the local industry.
