Jordan’s Covid-19 cases up by 24% over last week- Belbisi

Adviser to the Prime Minister for Health Affairs and official in charge of coronavirus file, Dr. Adel Belbisi, said the 22th epidemiological week of 2022, which runs from May 28 to June 3, saw 334 Covid-19 cases, compared to 269 infections a week earlier, up by about 24%.

In press remarks to “Petra” on Sunday, Belbisi said the number of “PCR” tests conducted during the 22th week amounted to 15,071, compared to 15,933 tests during the previous week, with a 15% decrease.

Meanwhile, the number of cases currently receiving treatment in the Kingdom’s hospitals reached 4, compared to 7 during the previous week, , with a 43% drop, he said.

In addition, Belbisi noted percentage of positive tests also went up to 2.2%, compared to 1.7 % a week earlier, with a 29% increase.

The number of Jordan’s active cases reached 241, compared to 184 infections during the last week, a 31% increase, he pointed out.

On the national vaccination programme, he said that the number of shots administered during the 22th week stood at 6, 081 for the first dose, 9, 465 for the second, and 2, 051 for the booster jab, totaling 17, 597 shots, compared with 11,845 shots a week earlier, marking a 50 per cent increase.

To date, a total of 4, 789, 940 first doses were administered at about 75% of the target 18yrs-over group and 4, 512, 045 for second jabs, 70% of the same target age group, while 660,428 for booster jabs, he noted.

Regarding inoculation of the 12-17 age group, he said the number of first dose recipients was 235,015, at a 25% rate, and 193,354 for the second dose, at a 20% rate, while vaccination in the 5-11 age group stood at 239 for first dose, while 167 others were double jabbed.
