Jordanian, Spanish Business Leaders Explore Revitalizing Joint Council

Amman: Chairman of the Jordanian Businessmen Association (JBA) Ayman Alawneh and Spanish Embassy Economic and Commercial Attach© Victor Suanzes on Wednesday discussed reactivating the Jordanian-Spanish Business Council to strengthen economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.

According to Jordan News Agency, Alawneh emphasized the importance of revitalizing the council, which was established in 1994 as a platform for strengthening partnerships between the private sectors in both countries. He highlighted the need to align this initiative with economic developments and the interests of the shared business community. Alawneh advocated for leveraging the partnership agreement with the European Union and developing a joint action program to boost Jordanian exports to the Spanish market. He also emphasized attracting more Spanish investment to Jordan, citing its favorable investment climate and competitive incentives.

Alawneh further called for enhanced communication between Jordanian businesspeople and their Spanish counterparts. He proposed organizing joint meetings and economic events as a means to open new avenues for cooperation and facilitate the exchange of expertise.

For his part, Suanzes expressed Spain's commitment to strengthening economic cooperation with Jordan. He noted opportunities to expand trade and increase investment, particularly in the sectors of renewable energy, tourism, and infrastructure. Suanzes underscored the importance of rejuvenating the council to serve the economic interests of both countries.

Trade between Jordan and Spain reached about $460 million in 2023, with Jordanian exports primarily comprising inorganic chemicals, fertilizers, and mineral fuels and oils, according to the JBA.
