Jordanian Association Participates in Bee-Friendly Farming Day in Cairo

Cairo:Jordan's Hand in Hand for Economic Empowerment and Entrepreneurship Association joined the "Bee-Friendly Farming Day" at Rahaya farm in Cairo. The event is part of the PLANBEE project, which aims to bolster local beekeeping networks and foster entrepreneurship within the sector.

According to Jordan News Agency, the association released a statement on Sunday highlighting that the event included the planting of bee-friendly flowers and herbs designed to attract pollinators. The goal is to enhance biodiversity, provide sustainable food sources for bees, and aid in protecting them from environmental threats.

The association emphasized that its involvement demonstrates a commitment to strengthening Jordan's role in regional environmental initiatives and exchanging expertise with Mediterranean partners. This involvement supports the development of the bee economy and raises community awareness about the importance of protecting natural pollinators.

Additionally, the association noted that beekeeping and natural pollinators are crucial for sustaining food systems and natural resources, while also supporting rural livelihoods and local economic development.

PLANBEE is implemented by an alliance of seven partners from six countries—Cyprus, Egypt, Italy, Jordan, Lebanon, and Palestine. The project seeks to stimulate local economic growth by advancing the beekeeping sector and promoting sustainability, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

The European Union funds 89 percent of the project under the Interreg NEXT MED program, with a total budget of approximately 2.8 million pounds, including a direct EU contribution of nearly 2.5 million pounds.
