Amman: Representative of the leather and garment industries sector at Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI), Ihab Qadri, highlighted the economic opportunity for Jordan’s apparel industry following the national football team’s qualification for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
According to Jordan News Agency, Qadri noted that this global event positions Jordan as a manufacturing export destination for international sportswear brands. With over 50 Jordanian industrial companies in the leather and garment industries sector exporting their products internationally, the industry is poised to expand its market share and diversify its export destinations. This vision aligns national identity with local products, aiming to boost demand, open new markets, and diversify the export base, contributing to economic growth and supporting the Jordanian industry.
Qadri emphasized the significant role the national football team’s qualification will play in enhancing exports and expanding the industry’s global market presence. The United States currently serves as the primary market for Jordan’s apparel exports, accounting for 85% of the sector’s total exports. He also stressed the potential for the Jordanian leather and textile sector to successfully compete in global markets due to its quality and compliance with international specifications.
The International Trade Center’s export potential map indicates that the textile sector holds substantial expansion potential, with untapped export opportunities estimated at approximately $824 million. Qadri called for a promotional plan to enhance the reach of Jordanian products, particularly in the knitwear sector, promoting Jordanian products as a blend of quality and cultural identity.
Qadri underscored the importance of leveraging Jordan’s experience in the knitwear sector to attract international brands specializing in sportswear manufacturing. A significant portion of these products are made in Jordanian factories adhering to high-quality standards, exported to American and European markets.
He also noted that the national football team’s success would boost local confidence in Jordanian products, as the event was warmly welcomed by the public. This presents an opportunity to rebuild confidence in industrial products through joint national marketing campaigns, promoting high-quality, distinctly designed garments and footwear that enhance consumer pride in purchasing local products reflecting national identity.
