Manama: A Jordanian parliamentary delegation, headed by Lower House Second Deputy Speaker Ibrahim Sarayrah, participated in the plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly (APA) held in Manama. Jordan emphasizes the importance of dialogue and cooperation as essential tools for achieving stability and development in Asia, according to Sarayrah's remarks at the conference.
According to Jordan News Agency, Sarayrah highlighted the unprecedented geopolitical and economic challenges faced by the continent, which demand a significant responsibility from parliamentarians. He emphasized that Asia, with its vast diversity and immense human and natural potential, should be a region of development and peace rather than conflicts and disputes.
During the session, attended by parliamentary speakers and delegations from multiple Asian countries, Sarayrah advocated for intensified intercultural and inter-civilizational dialogue as a measure to safeguard societies against extremism and isolation. He also reiterated the significance of the Palestinian issue, underscoring Jordan's unwavering support for the Palestinian people's rights as established in international UN resolutions, including the creation of an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital.
Additionally, Sarayrah reaffirmed the historical Hashemite custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, viewing it as crucial for preserving the status quo and protecting holy sites from any attempts at alteration. He further called for enhancing Asian integration through economic and sustainable development, social and cultural cooperation, and political affairs, budget, and planning. These tracks are seen as essential for ensuring effective parliamentary work and implementing APA's resolutions into practical programs for the benefit of Asian countries.
