Jordan, Trkiye, Syria Engage in Talks to Support Syrian Reconstruction and Regional Stability

Amman: Jordan, Trkiye, and Syria have commenced trilateral talks aimed at supporting Syrian reconstruction and regional stability. The discussions focus on finding a pathway to peace and humanitarian relief in the region.

According to Jordan News Agency, Jordan remains committed to ending aggression and establishing a permanent ceasefire. A recent development in this initiative is the release of American citizen Edan Alexander, which Jordan sees as a step towards a comprehensive agreement. This agreement aims to secure a lasting ceasefire, lifting the siege on Gaza, and allowing the entry of adequate humanitarian aid to set the stage for a broader peace process.

Jordanian Foreign Minister Safadi stressed that enduring peace and stability are contingent upon Palestinians achieving their right to an independent and sovereign state alongside Israel, in line with international legitimacy and the Arab Peace Initiative. He highlighted the dire humanitarian situation in Gaza, attributing the deaths there not only to conflict but also to starvation, thirst, and lack of medical services. Safadi called for urgent global action to address this inhumane situation.

Safadi further described the situation in Gaza as a humanitarian catastrophe, labeling it a graveyard for both children and international law. He criticized the deprivation of basic necessities for 2.3 million Palestinians due to Israel’s ongoing aggression and blockade of aid to Gaza. Since March 2, no humanitarian aid has entered Gaza, leading to severe shortages and the collapse of essential services.

Jordan, under the leadership of King Abdullah, is actively working with regional and international partners to change this reality. The country conducted extensive aid operations prior to the blockade, including major airdrops and land shipments. Safadi condemned the international community’s silence on Israel’s blockade, deeming it irrational and unacceptable.

Instead of engaging with Arab proposals for a just peace that guarantees Palestinian rights and Israeli security, he stated that Israel continues its aggression not only in Gaza but also in the West Bank, Syria, and Lebanon. Safadi criticized Israel’s unilateral actions in the West Bank, which jeopardize peace prospects and risk further conflict. He also noted Israel’s refusal to uphold the ceasefire with Lebanon and its continued occupation of border areas it had agreed to vacate.
