Amman: The Ministry of Agriculture is set to introduce a regulated mechanism for counting sheep through electronic tagging, as announced by Minister of Agriculture Khaled Hneifat. This initiative aims to streamline the livestock census process, ensuring accuracy and efficiency in the management of sheep populations across the country.
According to Jordan News Agency, Minister Hneifat detailed the formation of three committees representing various governorates, each responsible for a specific phase of the livestock census. The method involves the use of electronic chips to track sheep, complemented by feed supply records to verify the origins and branches of herds. This approach is designed to curb fictitious ownership claims and to ensure that government subsidies are allocated to legitimate livestock holders.
The campaign is scheduled to commence following the Eid Al-Adha holiday. During a recent meeting with sheep breeders, Minister Hneifat addressed their concerns regarding the sheep tagging process, emphasizing the importance of incorporating non-traditional verification techniques in the new system.
