Amman: The Ministry of Labor has announced plans to deport any foreign students found working in violation of the Jordanian Labor Law starting April 1. The ministry emphasized that these deportations would occur “under any circumstances.”
According to Jordan News Agency, the ministry’s spokesperson, Mohammad Zyoud, stated that coordination is underway with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research. This collaboration aims to address all public and private universities and community colleges to rectify the status of students violating the labor laws. Zyoud highlighted that international students would be informed that their employment in the labor market constitutes a violation of Jordanian law.
The labor ministry, in collaboration with the Ministry of Interior and the Public Security Directorate (PSD), has conducted joint inspection campaigns since the beginning of the year. These efforts have resulted in the arrest of numerous university students of various nationalities who were found working in contravention of the Labor Law.
Zyoud stressed the importance of foreign university students adhering to the existing regulations, which prohibit them from entering the labor market in Jordan. He also outlined penalties for employers, stating that any employer who hires an overseas student will face a fine of no less than JD800 per student.
Locally, Zyoud noted that the ministry is continuing its inspection campaigns to identify and apprehend non-Jordanian workers violating the Labor Law.
