Jordan, Syria Sign MoU in ICT and Postal Services to Boost Collaboration

Amman: The Jordan Telecommunications Regulatory Commission (TRC) and Syrian Telecommunications and Post Regulatory Authority have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at enhancing cooperation in telecommunications, information technology, and postal services.

According to Jordan News Agency, Chairperson Lara Al-Khatib stated that the MoU reinforces the commitment of both nations to develop their telecommunications, IT, and postal sectors aligned with global standards, serving the interests of their respective populations.

Mohamad Atef Al Dairy, Director-General of the Syrian Telecommunications and Post Regulatory Authority, described the agreement as a strategic move towards strengthening collaboration and exchanging expertise. This initiative is expected to aid in the development of digital infrastructure and contribute to sustainable economic and social growth.

The agreement encompasses various areas, including coordination on frequency spectrum usage in border areas to minimize interference, updating related agreements, and exchanging expertise in type approvals and regulation of telecommunications devices. It also includes cooperation in postal services and parcel delivery.

The MoU emphasizes enforcement and compliance to maintain a regulated communications environment, improve service quality to meet user satisfaction, and protect consumer rights within telecommunications services.

Further, the agreement entails technical cooperation in ICT, knowledge sharing on digital transformation for social and economic development, and coordination in international and regional forums. It also includes field visits and workshops to share best practices in IT and communications, facilitated by the International Telecommunication Union's certified training center.

Additionally, the MoU underscores collaboration in cybersecurity, focusing on exchanging expertise and best practices to prevent illegal activities and protect internet networks in accordance with national laws.
