Jordan Stresses Continued Security Coordination with Syria Against Daesh Threat

Amman:Jordan has reiterated its commitment to maintaining strong relations with Syria, emphasizing its readiness to enhance institutional coordination to address shared security threats, specifically identifying the Daesh terrorist group as a common menace.

According to Jordan News Agency, Minister of Government Communication and Official Spokesperson Mohammad Momani expressed the Kingdom's deep respect for the Syrian state and its people, highlighting ongoing bilateral security coordination efforts against terrorism, weapons trafficking, and drug smuggling to ensure mutual stability.

Momani noted the Jordanian Armed Forces-Arab Army (JAF) recently conducted targeted airstrikes on Daesh strongholds in Syria. These actions were prompted by persistent terrorist activities threatening Jordan's national security. The strikes, based on actionable intelligence, successfully neutralized imminent threats, with initial assessments indicating over 20 Daesh operatives killed and a major weapons depot destroyed.

The Minister expressed regret over any civilian casualties, affirming that Jordanian forces avoid targeting locations with a civilian presence. Jordanian authorities are actively working with Syrian counterparts to investigate the incidents. A joint committee will be established by the two nations to follow up on military actions and further enhance counter-terrorism coordination.

Momani emphasized the intertwined security of Jordan and Syria, stressing the unified goal of combating terrorism, as demonstrated by the recent attack in Jordan's Karak region. He concluded by reaffirming Jordan's commitment to Syria's sovereignty and stability, engaging international partners to ensure stability along Syria's southern border.
