Jordan saw 362 rumors in 2022-Monitor

Amman, Jordanian Media Credibility Monitor, Akeed, recorded 362 rumors circulated by Jordanians in 2022, through local media outlets and social platforms.

In its annual report announced Wednesday, Akeed said it has developed a “quantitative and qualitative” methodology to monitor rumors, defining them as incorrect information related to Jordanian public or interests, which have reached more than 5, 000 people via digital media.

Over 2022, AKEED found that the number of rumors were 362 last year at a rate of 30 per month, down by 188, compared to 550 rumors recorded during 2021, as the average number of fake items has dropped from 46 in 2021 to 30 in 2022.

Last August recorded the highest number of rumors during 2022, with 43 fake items, or 12% of the total number, while April 2022 saw the least monthly number of 15 rumors, or 4%, Akeed figures showed.

Health rumors hit 27 last year, down by 71 fake items, compared to 2021, which saw 98 rumors and dropped to 27 in 2022, ranking the fifth (penultimate) place, compared to the second slot in 2021, Akeed data revealed.
