Jordan, Russia ink cooperation program

Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Yousef Shamali, on Thursday, signed the cooperation program between Jordan and Russia, in the presence of the Russian ambassador to Jordan, Gleb Desyatnikov.

Earlier, the Russian Minister of Science and Higher Education signed a joint program in the culture, science and education fields for 2021-2023.

Speaking at the signing ceremony, Shamali affirmed Jordan’s interest in developing economic and trade cooperation in various fields with Russia, best benefiting from the opportunities available in both countries, in addition to overcoming all difficulties facing trade movement, and working to find ways to increase volume of trade exchange.

Shamali and the Russian envoy discussed the possibility of holding the 6th session of Jordanian-Russian Joint Committee for Trade, Economic, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, “at the earliest opportunity,” which was scheduled to convene this month, but put off due to the Covid-19 pandemic and its repercussions.

In 2020, Jordanian exports to Russia amounted to about $2.56 million, down by 9.33%, while the value of imports from the Russian market amounted to $207.4 million, down by 11.81%, compared to 2019.
