Jordan-Qatar trade exchanges up by 28% in 2022-Data

Doha, Volume of Jordan-Qatar trade exchange recorded a “significant” jump exceeding more than 28%, compared to 2021.

The 2022 joint trade volume amounted to about 800 million riyals ($233.5 million), up from 624 million riyals ($171.4 million) in 2021, according to official Qatari data.

Growth in the two countries’ trade during 2022 stands at about 176 million riyals ($48.3 million), representing a 28.2% increase, compared to 2021.

In statements to “Petra,” Qatari traders and importers attributed the “significant” increase in Jordan-Qatar trade during the past year to the growth in Jordan’s exports to Qatari market, especially during FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 period, which raised volume of demand for goods and products, especially foodstuff items.

The two countries’ trade balance over the past ten years has exceeded 11.5 billion Qatari riyals ($3.17 billion), according to official statistics issued by the Qatar Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA).

During 2012-2017 period, volume of Qatar’s exports to Jordan amounted to about 5.35 billion Qatari riyals, compared to 2.44bln in imports, bringing the export-import imbalance value to 2.91 billion riyals, representing a trade surplus in favor of Qatar.

As for 2018-2021 period, the trade surplus shifted in favor of Jordan by 1bln Qatari riyals, as the value of Qatar’s exports during those years amounted to approximately 1.2bln riyals, compared to 2.2bln in imports.

According to these data, the value of goods re-exported from Qatar to Jordan during the past ten years amounted to approximately 623 million Qatari riyals ($171.1 million).
