Jordan, Qatar sign cultural cooperation agreement

Culture Minister Ali Al-Ayed and Qatari Ambassador to the Kingdom Saud bin Nasser Al-Thani Tuesday signed a cooperation agreement in various fields of culture and arts.

The agreement includes promoting and supporting cultural cooperation between the two countries by holding art exhibitions, organizing cultural weeks, visiting artistic, performing, theatrical and musical groups, holding plastic arts exhibitions, exchanging visits of lecturers, poets and writers in the two countries, exchanging invitations to participate in festivals and cultural events, and consulting and coordinating between them on all cultural issues during participation in Arab and international conferences and meetings.

Following the signing of the agreement, the Minister of Culture praised the level of distinguished relations between the Kingdom and Qatar, stressing the importance of this agreement in framing the cultural relations between the two brotherly countries, which constitute the beginning of diligent work in various cultural fields.

The Minister of Culture also praised the brotherly relations established by His Majesty King Abdullah with his brother, the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.

For his part, Ambassador Al-Thani lauded as “rooted ties” in all fields, the Jordanian-Qatari relations, pointing out to the consensus on issues of concern to the two brotherly countries in various forums.

He indicated that this agreement is not the first between Jordan and Qatar, but was preceded by many agreements, expressing his hope that this agreement will contribute to the development of cultural exchange and the exchange of expertise to serve the two countries.

Under the terms of the agreement, the two parties will work to deepen cooperation between the national libraries of the two countries through the exchange of cultural and scientific information, publications, manuscripts and photos, activating the exchange of intellectual production, exchanging expertise in the field of library training, and the restoration of manuscripts. The two parties also participate in book fairs that are held in both countries through the participation of national libraries and related institutions.

It also stipulates encouraging the exchange of visits by officials and researchers in the field of museums and antiquities, restoring Islamic antiquities, encouraging holding archaeological exhibitions, exchanging newsletters and publications related to them, lending artifacts of historical value between national museums in accordance with the laws in force in both countries, and encouraging the establishment of training courses and workshops on antiquities and museums, training Jordanian and Qatari cadres, coordinating and consulting between them in international conferences related to antiquities and museums, and participating in archaeological excavations in both countries.

The two parties encourage the exchange of experts and specialists in the culture of children in the two countries and the presentation of joint cultural productions dedicated to children, including theatrical performances and films of their own.

The two parties encourage cooperation between musical and theater groups in both countries to set up courses, allocate study fellowships in each of them, exchange visits, present joint activities in this regard, and cooperate in the field of joint cinematic production and organizing cinematic weeks in both countries.
