Jordan Pushes Youth Empowerment and Engagement in Political Life: Odat

Amman: Minister of Political and Parliamentary Affairs Abdul Moneim Odat stressed the importance of empowering youth and enhancing their role in Jordan’s political life and partisan work.

According to Jordan News Agency, Odat emphasized that this initiative involves equipping young people with the necessary skills and training to become active partners in decision-making processes, shaping the future, and formulating state policies by electing their representatives in the Kingdom’s elected councils.

Odat’s remarks were made during the inauguration of the Politics and Society Institute (PSI) program for its seventh cohort. The program, implemented by the ministry in collaboration with the Netherlands Institute for Multiparty Democracy (NIMD) since 2019, aims to develop youth skills in political and party activities.

During the launching ceremony, Odat highlighted that Jordan’s modernization project concentrates on three development tracks: political, economic, and administrative. He noted that this reflects the state’s resilience and its capacity to address challenges facing the Kingdom.

Odat further stated that the Kingdom’s modernization project provides guarantees for its continuity and sustainability, drawing on both recent and past experiences.

Meanwhile, Bashar Khatib, NIMD representative, acknowledged the importance of the institute’s partnership with the ministry, which has been ongoing since 2019. Khatib noted that the NIMD has graduated over 300 young political activists, including party members and non-party beneficiaries, in Jordan.

The PSI program is dedicated to creating knowledge in fields such as democratic theory, political economy, law, political communication skills, and party engagement, Khatib pointed out.
