Montreal: Jordan handed over the public encryption keys for the Jordanian electronic passport (e-passport) to the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) during a ceremony at the organization’s headquarters in Montreal, Canada. This marks a significant step in Jordan’s efforts to complete its e-passport project.
According to Jordan News Agency, Jordanian Ambassador to Canada Sabah Al Rafie represented the Kingdom at the ceremony, where the Issuing Authority Certification Certificate (CSCA) for the Jordanian e-passport was presented to the ICAO Electronic Certification Center. The Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship made this announcement in a statement.
The event was attended by ICAO Deputy Director of Aviation Security and Facilitation, Sylvain Lefoyer. Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, Sami Smeirat, stated that uploading the certificate to ICAO’s servers will allow member states in the Public Key Directory (PKD) to verify electronic passports. This will enhance the automated and direct verification of their authenticity and facilitate the passage of passport holders through the border crossings of participating countries.
