Ali pointed out that Jordan has taken important steps in empowering women and enhancing their active participation, supported by a strong political will, referring to the framework of the initial national plan to implement UNSCR 1325, where the security and military sectors saw an increase in the qualitative participation of women in various positions and in UN peacekeeping missions through women’s integration strategies adopted by JAF and Public Security Directorate (PSD).
She added that the implementation of Jordan’s second national plan to activate Resolution 1325 is being followed up in cooperation with UN Women, which was approved by the Council of Ministers in 2023, based on the recommindation of the Ministerial Committee for Women’s Empowerment.
The second plan included four main objectives, encompassing a set of outputs and initiatives that are implemented by a number of ministries and public institutions, in addition to civil society organizations.
The first objective focuses on increasing women’s
active participation in the security, military, diplomatic and justice sectors; the second addresses increasing women’s active participation in decision-making in the areas of crisis prevention and response, dealing with climate change, natural disasters and epidemics; the third focuses on enabling women and girls to access basic and humanitarian services, including shelter, medical, psychological, legal and social protection services; and the fourth focuses on reducing violence against women, discrimination and violent extremism.
