Doha: Together with the other 46 nations designated by the UN as least developed, Jordan is attending the Fifth Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDC5), which began on Sunday in Doha, Qatar.
The 5-day conference, held once every 10 years, is an opportunity for concerted international efforts to accelerate sustainable development in the least developed countries.
Partnerships will be renewed during the conference to overcome structural challenges, eradicate poverty, and achieve internationally agreed development goals.
The population of the 46 countries categorized as LDCs by the United Nations exceeded 1.3 billion people, or 14 percent of the world’s total population, who suffer from the aftermath of health, geopolitical, and climate crises such as Covid-19, the Russo-Ukrainian war, and the fight against climate change.
The conference was postponed two times because of Covid. Thousands of experts and activists are expected to partake to ensure that former promise-holders keep their promises.
