Jordan joins global partnership on end violence against children

The National Council for Family Affairs (NCFA) said Jordan has joined the “Global Initiative to End Violence Against Children (EVAC)”, becoming the 34th Pathfinding country to join the partnership.

The NCFA was nominated by the Government to represent Jordan in the global partnership to understand the drivers of violence and build integrated responses to improve the lives of children and young people.

The Global Partnership to End Violence Against Children promotes the concept of Pathfinding, which aims to raise awareness, stimulate leadership commitment, galvanize action, and establish a standard of national violence prevention throughout the world.

NCFA will lead Jordan’s participation as a Pathfinding by coordinating with Government ministries and other actors, including civil society organizations and international organizations, to ensure that the elimination of all forms of violence against children is integrated into national plans and activities and that progress is monitored.

The announcement was made during an event held by the NFCA and UNICEF Jordan and attended by the UN Special Representative to the Secretary-General on Violence Against Children (SRSG-VAC), Najat Maalla M’jid, Howard Taylor, the Executive Director of the Global Initiative to End all Forms of Violence [attending virtually]; representatives of national child rights organizations; international organizations; and the media.

During the event, the ‘National Study on Violence Against Children in Jordan’ was launched to highlight community practices and attitudes on violence against children, including the most recent data on the prevalence of violence in the country.

The study shows that despite comprehensive efforts to end violence against children in Jordan, its prevalence remains stubbornly high.

The study provides the evidence for effective decision making by Government, international agencies and non-governmental organizations, and will help unify efforts towards enhanced policies, systems and services to protect children and youth, and their families.
