Jordan Joins 41st Session of Council of Arab Ministers of Justice

Cairo: Jordan’s Permanent Representative to the Arab League, Amjad Adaileh, led the Jordanian delegation at the forty-first session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Justice, which convened at the League’s offices. Adaileh stood in for Minister of Justice Bassam Talhouni. The session commenced with Saudi Arabia transferring the presidency to Sudan, where Sudan’s Minister of Justice, Abdullah Darf, took over the helm.

According to Jordan News Agency, Jordan is a prominent participant within the Arab judicial cooperation framework, noted for its dedication to the rule of law, justice, and judicial independence. The nation plays a vital role in fortifying justice mechanisms and sharing expertise in this essential sector.

The session aimed to bolster joint Arab cooperation in judicial matters, enhancing mechanisms to address Arab issues and champion justice on both regional and international stages. Key agenda items included the activation of Arab agreements on combatting terrorism, such as the Arab Convention for the Suppression of Terrorism and its implementation, alongside conventions on combating money laundering, terrorism financing, and information technology crimes.

Discussions extended to implementing resolutions related to the Arab Convention against Corruption, the draft Arab Convention on the Status of Refugees, and the Arab Convention on the Protection of Personal Data. The Council evaluated draft Arab model laws concerning the prevention of hate speech, aid to displaced persons, protection of children from recruitment into armed conflicts, and updates to the model Arab law on combating narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances.

In a notable event on the session’s sidelines, the Council recognized Nashaat Akhras, Director of the Jordanian Judicial Institute, by awarding the Arab Judicial Training Excellence Shield. This honor acknowledges the Institute’s significant contributions to judicial training and the enhancement of legal competencies in Jordan and the broader Arab world.

The accolade highlights the Jordanian Judicial Institute’s accomplishments as a leading institution in judicial training and capacity-building, setting a benchmark for developing legal and judicial expertise in accordance with top professional standards.
