Amman: The Ministry of Interior in Jordan, following a recommendation from the Ministry of Health, has imposed a temporary ban on travelers arriving from the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the Republic of Uganda. This measure aims to address growing concerns about the spread of the Ebola virus in these countries.
According to Jordan News Agency, Jordanian citizens are exempt from this ban, which is set to last for 30 days starting May 20, 2026. This decision was made in response to evolving epidemiological developments and after a meeting on May 18, 2026. The meeting included representatives from the Ministry of Health's Directorate of Epidemiology, the Jordan Center for Disease Control, and the World Health Organization (WHO) in Jordan, who convened to assess the situation and recommend necessary preventive actions.
Relevant authorities have confirmed that this decision is in accordance with the Jordanian Public Health Law No. 47 of 2008 and its amendments, intended to enforce preventive measures against the entry and spread of epidemics and communicable diseases. Officials emphasized that the epidemiological situation will be continually monitored and evaluated based on updates from the global health community.
