Amman: Foreign and defense ministers, army chiefs of staff, and intelligence chiefs from Jordan, Trkiye, Syria, Iraq, and Lebanon met in Amman on Sunday to discuss support for Syria’s reconstruction and stability. The meeting focused on ways to help the Syrian people rebuild their country while preserving Syria’s unity, sovereignty, security, and stability. Participants also discussed combating terrorism and facilitating the safe, voluntary, and sustainable return of Syrian refugees while ensuring the rights of all Syrians.
According to Jordan News Agency, the meeting at the invitation of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan brought together key officials to address practical mechanisms for cooperation in counter-terrorism, drug and arms smuggling, border security, and other shared regional challenges, as well as the situation in Syria.
Participants agreed on several points, including supporting the Syrian people in rebuilding their country while safeguarding Syria’s security and territorial integrity. They recognized Syria’s security as essential to regional stability and condemned any attempts to undermine it. The officials also condemned Israeli attacks on Syrian territory and urged the international community to intervene.
The meeting welcomed the outcomes of the Syrian National Dialogue Conference and encouraged swift action on constitutional declarations. Emphasis was placed on condemning terrorism and launching a joint operations center to coordinate efforts against ISIS.
Further discussions covered enhancing cooperation to combat drug and arms smuggling, supporting Syria’s reconstruction efforts, and calling for the lifting of sanctions on Syria. The participants emphasized the importance of international aid for early recovery projects and strengthening economic, trade, and investment cooperation.
The officials agreed to work with regional and international partners, including UN agencies, to create conditions for the safe return of Syrian refugees and stressed the need for continued support for host countries. A second round of meetings is planned in Turkey next month to build on the discussions and finalize decisions.
