Jordan Food Industry Exports Surge 16.3% in First Eight Months of 2026

Amman:Jordan's food industry exports have significantly increased in the first eight months of 2026, reaching JD703 million, a 16.3% rise compared to the JD605 million recorded during the same period last year. This surge is attributed to heightened external demand for Jordanian food products and the expansion into new export markets.

According to Jordan News Agency, data from the Jordan Chamber of Industry (JCI) highlights this growth, which not only includes an increase in export value but also a greater diversity of markets and products. Mohammad Jitan, JCI representative of the food, catering, agricultural, and livestock sector, noted notable growth in several Arab and European markets.

Exports to Syria saw a dramatic 110% increase, reaching JD26 million, while exports to Palestine grew by 83% to JD27 million. The Netherlands also showed a significant rise, with exports increasing by 47% to JD13 million. Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia remains the largest destination for Jordanian food exports, with a total value of JD161 million, marking an 8% increase. Iraq follows closely, with exports growing by 34.3% to JD147 million.

Despite these gains, exports to the United States and Yemen declined by 21% and 4%, respectively. Jitan emphasized the importance of exploring new markets, particularly in Europe, to sustain growth and reduce dependency on traditional markets.

In terms of products, diverse food preparations topped the list, with exports growing 24% to JD95 million. Manufactured tobacco and tobacco substitutes, along with prepared vegetables and fruits, also showed growth. However, exports of cocoa and cocoa-related products saw a decline of 24%.

These developments underline the sector's ability to adapt to changing demands, with Arab markets remaining a primary base for exports due to geographical proximity and established trade relations. Jitan stresses the need for continued expansion into additional markets to ensure sustainable growth.
