Amman: The Jordanian Armed Forces, in collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Ministry of Health, evacuated 29 children from the Gaza Strip to Jordan on Tuesday. The evacuation was carried out by land and air under royal directives, allowing the children to receive necessary treatment in hospitals across Jordan as part of the Jordanian Medical Corridor Initiative.
According to Jordan News Agency, the evacuation marks the first group of 2,000 children who will receive treatment inside Jordan, as part of the country’s ongoing humanitarian efforts to support families in the Gaza Strip. Brigadier General Mustafa Hayari, Director of Military Media, explained during a press conference at King Hussein Bridge that the evacuation operation was a direct result of royal instructions to stand by the families in Gaza.
He recalled that His Majesty King Abdullah II, during his recent visit to the US, announced Jordan’s readiness to receive 2,000 children for treatment. Hayari detailed that 4 children were evacuated by Royal Jordanian Air Force helicopters, equipped with a specialised medical team, from Marka Military Airport. 25 children were transported by land via ambulances through King Hussein Bridge.
He emphasised the continued efforts of the Jordanian Armed Forces in providing humanitarian aid, relief, and medical treatment to the people of the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip. Since the beginning of the ongoing conflict, the Jordanian Armed Forces have treated over half a million patients and performed 20,679 minor and major surgeries.
As part of the “Restore Hope” initiative, 363 upper and lower prosthetic limbs have been fitted. 176 convoys, totaling 7,749 trucks, have been sent since the war’s start, with 36 convoys comprising 2,719 trucks sent after the truce. Some 74,000 tents and mobile homes have been delivered to Gaza in cooperation with the Jordanian Hashemite Charity Organisation and various local and international organizations operating in Jordan.
