Jordan Engages in Regional Dialogue on Disaster Risk Reduction in Kuwait

Amman: Interior Minister Mazen Faraya of Jordan participated in the 6th Arab Regional Platform for Disaster Risk Reduction held in Kuwait. The event saw the attendance of representatives from 22 Arab nations, including ministers, international organizations, and experts, aiming to address and strategize on disaster risk reduction.

According to Jordan News Agency, Faraya, representing the Prime Minister, also visited the General Directorate of Nationality and Travel Documents in Kuwait. During the visit, he was briefed on the advancements in the Kuwaiti passport system, which has evolved into its current electronic version. This tour included an overview of the procedures for submitting and renewing passports through electronic services and the mechanisms for receiving them via designated devices.

The minister acknowledged Kuwait’s progress in digital services, highlighting the importance of sharing knowledge and innovations between Jordan and Kuwait’s interior ministries. This exchange is seen as crucial to enhancing government services and advancing digital transformation efforts.

On the sidelines of the forum, Faraya held meetings with Palestinian Interior Minister Ziad Hab Al-Reeh, the Iraqi Environment Minister, and other officials. These discussions focused on fostering cooperation in disaster risk management and related fields.

The forum, organized by the Government of Kuwait and the Regional Office for Arab States of the United Nations Office for Disaster Risk Reduction, in collaboration with the Arab League, aims to follow up on the Sendai Framework’s implementation. It also addresses the Arab Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction 2030. One of the key outcomes is the adoption of the Kuwait Declaration, which outlines an action plan for 2025-2027 and a regional strategy for the upcoming three years.
