Ljubljana: Senator Hussein Al-Majali represented Jordan at the 71st annual session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly, which Jordan attended as a Mediterranean Dialogue partner alongside the 32 NATO member states.
According to Jordan News Agency, the session, held in Ljubljana, Slovenia, from October 10 to 13, included meetings of several committees, such as Defense and Security, Civil Dimension of Security, Economics and Security, Science and Technology, and Political Affairs. During the Defense and Security Committee meeting, Al-Majali stressed the critical role of security and defense in ensuring national stability and societal welfare. He remarked that security not only protects fundamental human rights but also fosters an environment conducive to investment, work, and innovation, thereby driving economic and social development.
On the sidelines, Al-Majali engaged with the Swedish parliamentary delegation, led by J¶rgen Berglund, to explore issues of mutual interest. Additionally, he met with the Algerian delegation, headed by El Hajj Nour, Chairman of the Defense and National Security Committee of Algeria’s Council of the Nation. The discussions focused on enhancing the brotherly ties between Jordan and Algeria, particularly at the parliamentary level. Nour expressed Algeria’s gratitude for Jordan’s assistance, under King Abdullah II’s leadership, in evacuating Algerian citizens stranded on the Freedom Flotilla.
Established in 1955, the NATO Parliamentary Assembly provides a platform for parliamentarians from member and Mediterranean partner countries to discuss broad defense and security policy issues.
