Jordan Condemns Israel’s Approval of 19 Illegal Settlements in Occupied West Bank

Amman: The Ministry of Foreign and Expatriate Affairs strongly condemned Israel's approval of the establishment and legalization of 19 illegal colonial settlements in the occupied West Bank.

According to Jordan News Agency, the ministry stated that this move constitutes a violation of international law and international humanitarian law. It undermines efforts aimed at achieving a two-state solution and breaches the Palestinian people's right to self-determination, an end to occupation, and the establishment of an independent state on the pre-June 4, 1967 borders, with occupied Jerusalem as its capital. The ministry emphasized that Israel holds no sovereignty over the occupied West Bank.

Fouad Al-Majali, the ministry's spokesperson, reiterated Jordan's condemnation and rejection of the Israeli government's settlement projects in the occupied West Bank. He noted that these actions entrench occupation, expand settlements, undermine the international community's support for a two-state solution, and violate international law and relevant international resolutions.

Al-Majali highlighted UN Security Council Resolution 2334, which condemns Israeli measures aimed at altering the demographic composition and status of Palestinian territories occupied since 1967, including East Jerusalem. He also referred to the International Court of Justice's advisory opinion affirming the illegality of Israel's occupation, settlement construction, and annexation measures in the occupied West Bank.

He called on the international community to fulfill its legal and moral responsibilities by compelling Israel to halt its escalation and unilateral actions in the occupied West Bank. He stressed the importance of ensuring the Palestinian people's legitimate rights, including the establishment of their independent state, as the path to a just and comprehensive peace in the region.
