Jordan Condemns Israeli Minister’s Entry Into Al-Aqsa Mosque

Amman:The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates of Jordan expressed strong disapproval on Monday towards far-right Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and accompanying settlers for entering Al-Aqsa Mosque under police escort.

According to Jordan News Agency, Ministry spokesperson Fuad Majali labeled the action as a "blatant violation" of international law and humanitarian standards, describing it as an "unacceptable escalation" and a "flagrant infringement" on the status quo of the sacred site.

Majali conveyed Jordan's disapproval of recurrent incursions by Israeli officials and settlers and cautioned against any attempts to alter the status quo at Al-Aqsa Mosque, including dividing it either temporally or spatially. He emphasized that Israel does not possess sovereignty over East Jerusalem or its Islamic and Christian holy sites.

Majali also called on the international community to take a decisive stance, urging global powers to compel Israel, as the occupying power, to cease its illegal activities, stop restricting worshipers' access, and adhere to international law.

He reiterated that the entire 144-dunam Al-Aqsa Mosque complex is exclusively a place of worship for Muslims and is under the legal authority of the Jerusalem Waqf and Al-Aqsa Mosque Affairs Department, which is managed by Jordan's Ministry of Awqaf.
