Jordan, China discuss human rights issues

Commissioner-General for Human Rights, Aladdin Armouti, and China’s Ambassador to Jordan, Chen Chuandong, on Tuesday discussed cooperation in human rights issues.

Armouti spoke about the role of the National Centre for Human Rights and the promotion of public freedoms in the Kingdom in accordance with international agreements and national legislation.

“The center derives its powers from Law No. (51) of 2006 and its amendments,” Armouti added in a statement.

He stressed that promoting a culture of human rights requires spreading societal awareness of the legislative and legal perspective that guarantees political, economic and social rights among individuals and groups, as well as freedoms of all kinds, and ensuring having them in accordance with local and international standards.

He explained that activating international human rights charters and conventions requires rooting them within executive procedures, national institutions and law enforcement authorities, so that they become an integral part of the state system and society in thought and practice.

For his part, Chuandong valued the role and efforts of the center, in terms of enhancing the state of human rights and public freedoms in a way that reflects Jordan’s efforts in this path, and in a manner that preserves human rights and the rule of law and consolidates the principles of justice and equality.

He referred to Jordan’s role towards refugee issues, hosting large numbers of them, and providing them with aid and assistance, in addition to what it has done to include refugees in the Jordanian health response program and national vaccination against the Coronavirus.

The two sides stressed the need to maintain means of communication and strengthen cooperation between the two countries regarding human rights issues.
