Jordan Celebrates World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day with “United in Humanity” Theme

Amman: The Jordan Red Crescent Society marked World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day at its headquarters in Amman under the theme "United in Humanity," in the presence of officials, representatives of partner institutions, volunteers, and humanitarian workers.

According to Jordan News Agency, President of the Jordan Red Crescent Society, Muhammad Hadid, emphasized that the event serves as a reminder of humanity's unifying force worldwide, despite ongoing crises and challenges. He highlighted that the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement exemplifies achievements possible when compassion transcends differences and when service becomes a universal language.

Hadid further elaborated on the importance of human solidarity during crises, highlighting the role of volunteers in spreading hope and supporting those in need. He stressed that humanitarian work is essential not only during emergencies but also in daily life, urging for increased empathy, cooperation, and collective action. The slogan "United in Humanity," he said, encapsulates the idea that everyone has a role in alleviating suffering and preserving human dignity, whether through disaster response, supporting conflict-affected communities, or providing basic healthcare.

Atta Durrani, head of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) delegation in Jordan, supported the sentiment, stating that "United in Humanity" underscores shared humanity as the strongest bond among people. He noted the growing importance of humanitarian action based on fundamental principles in the face of regional challenges. Durrani praised the Jordan Red Crescent Society as a reliable humanitarian partner within the IFRC network, acknowledging its ongoing efforts in health support, first aid, youth engagement, and emergency response.

Peter Van Aken, Deputy Head of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) Delegation in Jordan, highlighted the increasing conflicts globally, particularly in the Middle East, where civilians face the brunt of humanitarian impacts. He noted that many families are displaced, with their suffering exacerbated by disruptions to essential services like healthcare, water, and electricity, along with a loss of stability.

Van Aken reaffirmed the commitment of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement to delivering timely assistance, promoting respect for international humanitarian law, and supporting those affected by conflicts and disasters. He praised volunteers and humanitarian workers for their dedication to translating compassion into action during challenging times.

On this occasion, the Jordan Red Crescent Society honored several individuals for their contributions to humanitarian work, acknowledging their dedication to serving others.
