Jordan cabinet approves supplementary budget bill

Jordan’s Cabinet Wednesday signed a supplementary budget draft law for the 2021 fiscal year into law “without adding to the public deficit.”

The supplementary budget law is aimed at covering the costs of the government’s support program and “mitigative” measures announced on 31 March. It was designed to bolster social protection and support the private sector to keep its employees and create jobs.

The law would also fund the government-sponsored temporary employment programs for the youth. The programs seek to employ the youth mainly in agriculture, tourism, health and IT.

The government will use U.S. grants to fully cover the supplementary budget costs without burdening the Jordanian treasury or enlarging its public deficit.
