Amman: The Jordan Biogas Company, fully owned by the Greater Amman Municipality, has successfully obtained three internationally recognized certifications for its management systems, specifically ISO 9001:2015 for quality management, ISO 14001:2015 for environmental management, and ISO 45001:2018 for occupational health and safety management.
According to Jordan News Agency, these certifications were awarded following the company's completion of the necessary auditing and assessment procedures aligned with international standards. This achievement underscores the company's commitment to implementing quality management practices, safeguarding the environment, enhancing workplace safety, and fostering continuous improvement.
Mohammad Al-Faouri, Deputy City Manager for Environment and Regions and Deputy Chairman of the Jordan Biogas Company's Board of Directors, highlighted that this accomplishment reflects both the municipality's and the company's dedication to advancing institutional work systems and boosting performance efficiency in line with global standards. He emphasized that it bolsters the company's role in managing and utilizing biogas resources while providing sustainable environmental services.
Established in 1998 as a joint venture between the Greater Amman Municipality and the Central Electricity Generating Company, the Jordan Biogas Company became fully owned by the municipality in 2020. The company initially embarked on its mission through the pioneering biogas project at the Ruseifa landfill, funded by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). This initiative involved capturing methane from waste decomposition, processing it to produce electricity, and reducing harmful emissions.
Subsequently, the company expanded its scope to include the management and maintenance of the landfill gas recovery and electricity generation project at the Ghabawi landfill, located east of Amman. This project ranks among the major waste-to-energy initiatives within the Kingdom.
In a bid to enhance the facility's efficiency and production capacity, the Greater Amman Municipality initiated procedures this year to install a fourth engine dedicated to a new generation unit. This addition is anticipated to further the project's contribution to promoting the circular economy and mitigating climate change impacts.
