Jordan and World Bank Discuss New Water Project Financing

Amman: Secretary General of Jordan Valley Authority (JVA), Hisham Haisa, and Ousmane Dione, World Bank Vice President for the Middle East and North Africa, engaged in discussions about financing new water projects in Jordan. The meeting, which took place during a tour at Mujib Dam, focused on enhancing national water security and addressing the country’s increasing water challenges.

According to Jordan News Agency, Haisa outlined plans to finance the Nakheel and Telal Dhahab dams. These projects are considered essential for increasing the Kingdom’s dam storage capacity and improving water resource management. Haisa emphasized the need for new water projects to tackle water scarcity, highlighting their significance in supporting sustainable development and the growth of local communities.

Haisa further highlighted the JVA National Strategy’s efforts to develop the sector and improve resource efficiency through expanded water harvesting initiatives. Meanwhile, Dione acknowledged the Kingdom’s efforts to confront water challenges and expressed the World Bank’s interest in the proposed projects.
