Jordan and Tunisia Explore Economic Partnership Opportunities

Jordan: Jordanian Businessmen Association (JBA) Chairman Ayman Alawneh and Tunisia's Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Tunisians Abroad Mohamed Ali Nafti engaged in discussions on Wednesday to explore avenues for enhancing bilateral economic cooperation and developing mechanisms to support trade exchange between the two nations.

According to Jordan News Agency, the meeting, which was also attended by Tunisian Ambassador to Jordan Moufida Zribi, focused on activating the Jordanian-Tunisian Joint Business Council and strengthening cooperation between private-sector institutions in both countries. Nafti emphasized the strong Jordanian-Tunisian relations, particularly in the economic domain, and highlighted the necessity of increasing investment flows and trade volume. He called for the removal of investment obstacles and enhanced networking between business communities.

Nafti expressed interest in hosting a Jordanian economic delegation to explore investment opportunities in Tunisia, especially in sectors like information technology and medical tourism. He assured that Tunisia would provide facilities to ensure mutual investment flows and stressed the importance of developing executive programs and action plans to achieve economic integration and implement bilateral agreements.

Alawneh, representing the JBA, remarked on the deep-rooted and historic relations between Jordan and Tunisia, advocating for building upon these ties to further enhance economic partnerships. He stressed the need to activate the Joint Business Council, established in 2016, to promote private-sector cooperation and expand trade and investment.

Alawneh also highlighted the significance of increasing trade through improved air and maritime shipping, proposing the establishment of a maritime route linking Jordan, Tunisia, and Egypt to facilitate market access and trade flow. He emphasized the importance of exchanging trade delegations, strengthening business-to-business communication, and leveraging competitive advantages in both countries.

Ambassador Zribi underlined the vital role of the JBA in advancing economic cooperation and stressed the importance of activating the Joint Business Council to boost trade volume and enhance Jordanian exports to the Tunisian market. Commercial Attach© Hisham Naji pointed to promising opportunities for Jordan and Tunisia to access African markets, indicating efforts to organize a joint Jordanian-Tunisian delegation to strengthen business linkages and share expertise.

The Jordan-Tunisia trade volume reached about $35 million in 2024.
